Does a Burr Coffee Grinder Really Make a Difference?
Because of my passion for all things coffee, go figure, as I live in a community that is decidedly against the drinking of coffee, I have been exploring buying coffee beans in the green phase, roasting them myself and exploring the difference in quality between chopped coffee beans and burr ground coffee beans.
Using a burr coffee grinder does make a difference in the quality and consistency of the coffee when it is made. By grinding the beans up into small similar sized pieces as a burr grinder does it allows the water to make contact with the various parts of the coffee ground surface more evenly. Where as chopping coffee beans produces in consistent sized coffee bean pieces and can burn the coffee ground giving off a bitter, burnt flavor.
As far as roasting your own coffee beans goes, there is nothing in the world like the smell of fresh roasted coffee, in my opinion, to make you feel wonderful. You don't even have to be drinking it, the smell alone is over the top. A far second would be the smell of fresh baked bread.
You can find the Cuisinart Conical Burr Coffee Grinder here.

Oh How I Love Coffee
I don't think there is anything about coffee that I don't totally love. There is the smell. Deep roasted fragrance floating around any atmosphere makes me feel relaxed. Weird I know as coffee is supposed to amp a person up, yet when I smell coffee it makes me think of friends and the morning.
Maybe it is because I love mornings that the smell of coffee reminds me of mornings.
Then there is all of the stuff that goes with coffee. The ritual of preparing coffee. The grinding of the beans, even before that the selection of which type of coffee to indulge in. My personal preference is a dark roast by Starbucks.
I'm rather a coffee snob, though I don't use a burr grinder (yet) I still have my blade grinder that I meticulously count out 15 seconds with so as to not burn my coffee beans. The blade grinder produces an adequate cup of coffee for my morning pleasure.
I love all kinds of coffee though. Espresso, Frapachinnos, drip coffee, french press coffee, coffee with stuff in it coffee black. Lately I've been experimenting with milk, honey and cinnamon in a dark roast drip coffee. So good. Sweet yet you aren't left with that "sugar" guilt and you haven't had to resort to those "deadly" sweeteners.
Try it out the next time you have a hankering for a cup of sweet coffee.
